Super simple. Very tasty! There are different types of satay ayam, today we are making the traditional Indonesian one, with a rich homemade peanut sauce and of course a nice touch of kecap manis! Serve it with some rice cakes or white rice and you good to go!
Ingredients
- 900 gr chicken thighs
- 4-6 shallots
- 8 garlic cloves
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp each: chicken powder, paprika, cumin, coriander, white pepper
- 2 tbsp oil
- 60-90 ml kecap manis
- 500 gr peanuts
- 3 shallots
- 4 garlic cloves
- 2 candlenuts
- 6 kaffir lime leaves
- 3 small chili peppers
- 1 tbsp tamarind paste
- 1 lime juice
- 3 tbsp palm sugar
- 60 ml kecap manis

Chicken
Blend the shallots, garlic, spices, kecap manis and oil to a smooth paste
- Slice the chicken into small pieces and marinate with the paste.
- Mix some of the peanut sauce with more kecap manis to make a glaze for the chicken.
- Put the chicken onto skewers and grill until charred, brushing a few times with the glaze
Peanut sauce
Heat the peanuts with shallots, garlic, chilies and candle nuts until some oil releases.
- Blend until smooth adding some water if needed
- Mix the paste with sugar, tamarind, kecap manis, lime juice and kaffir lime and let simmer for a little.
