Super simple, very tasty! My somewhat healthy take on the takeaway classic; orange chicken! It has everything you want a good kick, the sweetness of the oranges and ofcourse some super tender chicken!
Ingredients
- 800 gr chicken thighs
- 3 tbsp orange juice
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- Egg white
- Cornstarch
- 150 gr sugar
- 120 ml vinegar
- 60 ml soy sauce
- 3 tbsp sesame oil
- 3 oranges (120-180 ml orange juice + zest of 2)
- Cornstarch slurry
- 3 cm ginger
- Red chili
- 8 garlic
- Spring onion
- White rice
- Sesame seeds
- Little orange zest

Directions
Clean and slice your chicken thighs into bite size pieces
In a bowl mix together the chicken with orange juice, soy sauce, baking soda, an egg and cornstarch. Set aside and let marinate, the longer the better.
Prepare your sauce by mincing some garlic, ginger and red chilis and juicing and zesting the oranges.
Heat a wok on high and go in with some neutral oil to brown the chicken for about 4 minutes. Set aside
Add sesame oil to the wok and saute the ginger and chillies before adding all the other sauce ingredients except for the cornstarch slurry.
When thickened a bit go in with as much cornstarch as you like. I would suggest 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water to start. Bring back to a boil and let thicken.
Toss in the chicken and coat well
Serve with white rice and garnish with sesame seeds, orange zest and spring onion. Enjoy!
