Can be simple. Very tasty! A Dutch classic, made with some Dutch cheese and freshly made (or store bought) puff pastry! Cheesy, crunchy, and light, more I can not say about them!
Ingredients
- 250 gr flour
- 125 ml water
- Pinch of salt about 4 grams
- 250 gr butter
- 3 egg yolks
- 300 gr grated cheese
- Salt
- Pepper
Puff pastry
Rest
Directions
Optional Puff pastry
- In a bowl mix together 50 gr of butter, water, flour and salt.
- When combined, make a square of it and cover the dough with plastic foil. Let rest in the fridge for 20-30 minutes
- Make a square about 15x15 cm and ½ cm thick from the rest of the butter. Fold it in some baking paper
- Roll your dough on a floured surface until about 30 x 15 cm
- Put the butter on one half and fold the dough over it. Roll the dough and fold into four. Twist the dough a quarter, roll and fold again. Cover in plastic wrap and leave in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
- Do step 5 another 2 times
- Let is rest 1 hour in the fridge
Begin here with store bought puff pastry
- Roll the dough to about 40x25 cm and cut the long side in half.
- Brush one half with the egg yolks
- Put ⅔ of the cheese on it and season with salt and pepper
- Layer the other half on top and roll out a little so it will be one thing.
- Slice the dough into strips from a about 2 cm wide and 20-25 cm long
- Twist the strips and layer on baking paper
- Put a little cheese on them and bake in an oven at 180 degrees Celsius or 350 Fahrenheit for about 30 minutes or until golden and crispy
- Serve and enjoy
