Super simple. Very tasty! A famous Durban dish, that bursts with flavor and has a special way of serving it, in a hollow bread! Something you simply have to try sometime!
Ingredients

1 -1.5 kg beef
- 2 onions
- 4 garlic cloves
- Knob ginger
- 2 green chillies
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 cloves
- 1 star anise
- 6 cardamom pods
- 2 bay leaves
- 12 curry leaves
- cilantro
- Kashimiri masala (to taste)
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tbsp garam masala
- 1 tsp fennel seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 3 tomatoes
- 3 potatoes
- salt
- 500 ml water
Directions
Mince the garlic, onion and ginger. Chop the tomatoes and deseed the green chilies. Peel the potatoes and make cubes.
- Make cubes of the beef and sear on all sides in a big pan with oil. When browned, set aside.
- In the same pan fry down the spices, followed by the onion, garlic and ginger.
- When translucent go in with the bay, curry leaves, beef, spices, tomato and green chili peppers. Cover and let simmer until the beef is almost tender.
- Finish with lemon juice, cilantro and the potatoes. Cook until fork tender.
- Serve in a hollowed loaf of bread and serve with a carrot and onion salad. Enjoy!
